Since when haven't we looked "deer in the headlights" against X at Cintas? That said, I'm not justifying the nonconference schedule per se, I'm simply saying Cincinnati has had plenty of opportunities to win big games that put us in the NCAAT and didn't get it done. Going into the season, games against Georgia Tech, X and Dayton [neutral court] looked pretty good. Turned out GT and X were subpar this year.

Give us some of your positive energy to tell us how we're going to be better next year and that Wes is the right guy for the job.
Fans always underrate the value of development within a program. Of the guys playing significant minutes last night only Dan played significant minutes for this team last season. And Dan made a big leap from last year to this one. Newman is the only major contributor that is definitely gone.
This team is going to be a top 15-25 team next year assuming the roster remains stable this offseason (no big losses in the portal). I expect a big leap from Jizzle. Another nice leap from Dan. And I expect guys like Simas, Reynolds, Aziz, and Day Day to be much improved with another year in the program.
None of that makes last night and the blown opportunities at home this season any less frustrating.
And some fans overvalue the skills and abilities of this team, this is not now or next year a high level group of players, get off your high horse, we all have eyes.....
This has been a great thread to read. I didn't get to watch the game, my son watched, and he told me the result. I internally debated reading this thread while still disappointed about the loss I never saw. Glad I have been reading it. Lots of people that care making good arguments. It may be a tournament crushing loss in a season that featured a better team than last year.
I got a kick out of the concept of Mark riding into the post-game conversation on a tall horse. And then Eastside drops in on his Pegasus.

I didn't even notice the "high horse" comment until now. There are some posters on here i just kind of skim through and tune out as it's just constant negative (not you Billy... you still have my heart).
Nacho asked for some positive in a moment where it was really hard to be positive (that loss sucked). Happy to oblige and firmly believe we're in the brink of being back.

That x team stinks. The cheap buy game OOC scrimmage schedule didn't prepare us for even that.
Play teams with a pulse and get better or win a bunch of conference games. We are going to do neither. Super.

Playing a hard nonconference schedule this year would have been extremely dumb.

We don’t lose to XU because of scheduling. We lose because they scheme better, hit their shot and play better defense. Our fans constantly say we have better athletes- maybe, our guys can jump higher and run a little quicker, but they consistently have guys that are better at playing basketball.

Who said hard? Mix in a few that are better than intramural club teams. Season ticket holders paid full fare for a bunch of YMCA scrimmages.

I doubt much improvement from Aziz&Jamille at this point. I’m not convinced we have a coach that can develop players.
What about Coach Wes, Mark? Will he improve between now and next year? I’m kind of doubting will be better than top 25 to 30. You know other teams players also improve year to year. How will we outpace Them because we’re a year older so are our opponents. And getting older doesn’t always make you better.

Haven't you been listening to the post-game pressers? "Not being prepared" is the motto for the program at this point.

With all due respect, season ticket holders paid full share to see the Big XII teams and maybe GTech and Dayton. No season ticket holder has ever paid to see the vast majority of our or most any other upper tier P5/P6 basketball team's non-conf schedule.

Thomas is constantly getting beat and Simas is worse, this statement is pure BS from a coach in over his head......
Jizzle was in the game for 14 minutes and scored 10 points, which is, of course, phenomenal. However we were minus 11 during the stretch he was in the game...that's bad
His offensive skills are amazing and plain as day to see. His defense, not so much. When his D rises to the level of his offense it will be hard to take him out of the game. He isn't "there" yet.
But honestly you might want to rethink your broader comment about our players and defense (and coach) not being defensively capable. Every opposing coach we have played and and every "measurable" out there says you are wrong.
I get the frustration but if someone at the beginning of the season guaranteed we would be tooth and nail in every game against the best teams in the conference and have a top 25 nationally ranked defense - 99% of us would have been ecstatic and agree it would clearly mean we were on the right path.
Well that is where we are. All that has changed from the start of the season until now is our expectations. IMO the results, despite the pain, still mean we are clearly on the right path.
Just my .02 but filter out the "noise" and look at the trend. It calms the mind, repairs the psychic suspension parts damaged in close loss potholes and, most importantly, is the essential key to profitable wagering.
These +/- stats are pure bull****, in the 1st half when James was -8 his man never scored.....got very little credit for giving UC a 5 point lead in 2nd half in this stat.....lead immediately evaporated when he went out......these stats are like this every week for different players, pure garbage......
Still feeling good about that POV?
